On My Possibly Frivolous Spending Habits.
Sep. 16th, 2008 09:00 pmSomeone needs to tell me its ok to spend $200 as long as it is the pretteh and mildly useful..... and red.
Its one of the new 4th Gen Nano's. I'm trying to defend it to myself by the fact that I have never had one.... and I promise I'll use it all the time...
*headdesk* I'm so going to regret this later, but right at this moment, Its SO PRETTY!!
4 years since livejournal lurking stole my life, which makes it over 6 since I got into fandom (ahhh those deluded innocent Het days). Took me 6 months whilst reading my first fanfiction (Harry Potter and the Psychic Serpent, and related universe) to realise just how much of the stuff was actually out there. That first fic was my first and only Het fic before the discovery of slash, it developed my love of Draco as actual character, but when I ran into this:
When Harry and Draco first met in Madam Malkin's robe shop, neither ``of them could have anticipated how much loathing and mistrust would follow. But ``one day in their fifth year something happens which forces Harry and Draco to ``reconsider exactly what such abhorrence is founded on. Little by little, each ``of them is overwhelmed by Unthinkable Thoughts, and they begin the voyage that ``takes them from their safe harbours of deep suspicion well out into uncharted ``waters. And the more they discover, the more the realise that things can never ``be the same again! (Unthinkable Thoughts by Aiden Lynch)
I was still perplexed. After about a week of putting it off I thought I'd read and see if the summary was really talking about what I thought it was. I couldn't put it down (so to speak) and whan I got to the actual slash stuff I thought I was being so naughty, at this stage I had no idea the extent to which slash permeates every fandom in existence. And that was that. My 13 year old self corrupted forever. After that it was scanning Fiction Alley for more Harry/Draco fics, then fanfiction.net (yes I know, shut up). Then just googling the pairing constantly to find other archive sites. I thought R rated was the highest there was, the first time read NC-17 I was slightly scandilised, but wanted to read more. After probably a year or more of just trolling archives and random google links I realised that more than a few were leading to this livejournal place... I didn't immediately create a profile for myself, didn't really think I had to, I was just reading communites and jotting down the names of any authors I liked in a notebook, then I realised the benifits of signing up friending, joining communities, commenting, etc.
( Rambling continues... )
And then... Supernatural ate my life. Without going into all of it, this fandom took me hard, makes me read things that I used to squirm at in HP even if I secretly like them and feel absolutely no shame in doing so. My flatmates all despair at my squealing love of the J's and Supernatural, and I despair at their apparent blindness and lack of taste in TV shows.
So thats where I am 4 years after joining LJ, so very deeply entrenched in what is possibly the wankiest, bitchiest fandom in existence, and loving every minute of it. I can't see myself going back to HP, but I am constantly thankful for finding it, without it I may have never discovered fandom at large.
It makes me wonder where I'll be 4 years from now, SPN will be over. Will people still be writing it? Will I still be shipping the J's regardless? Will they have announced their engagement by then? Will I even still be involved in fandom then?
So I just wanted to say thank you to LJ (with a few notable exceptions but that is a different story) and collective fandom, for making the last 4 years of my fandom life a very happy one.
( Some bonus RL talk... )
Note: Because I haven't had a chance to properly squeee about this yet, cohabitation, are they serious!?!?! *loves*

Sep. 3rd, 2008 12:06 amThis was all thanks to one of my flatmates, she was doing a sausage sandwich fundraiser and her friend bailed on her. She had just under an hour if she wanted to hit her target group, drunken collage members on the way home from the uni pub, the friend never showed, so we roped the rest of the flatmate into helping (fyi I live with 7 other people). We had a little chain gang going along, bread being buttered, sausages cooking, Ahhhhh I feel the love!
Now if I can just figure out how to get the BBQ smell off me....

Aug. 13th, 2008 04:08 pmBy adding the code ?format=light or the new one that was pointed out to me today ?style=mine to the end of the entry address I can actually see the entry!!! Still don't have a solution to viewing whole journals that aren't loading, bar moving off campus. But this way at least I can read almost all of the entries that show up on my friends page even if I can't go trolling through some peoples actually journal!
Also Project Runway Australia episode!!!! ARRGGGHH! Seriously! Why?! Put it this way some people really need to be eliminated and others I can't believe they're are gone *sobs*

Aug. 4th, 2008 03:29 pm1. Less than 24 hours later my internet connection has spazzed again. I hate living on campus at my Uni sometimes :/
2. Had a lab today where there was a half hour break while a gel electrophoresis was running, so of go my lab partner and I to grab some lunch, we got back only to have the demonstrators tell us that there had been a broken seal on our setup, all of the buffer had leaked out, they weren't able to fix it, and we had to start over *growls*
3. Day three or four of using the new
4. USB cable arrived for my printer. What kind of printer doesn't come with a connection cable already in the box?!?! Still, loving the printer in any case, $70 well spent!
5. Have recently noticed that one of my flatmates is a serial breaker. Now I drop plates and cups and thingson occasion as well, everybody does, but I swear barely a week will go by when she hasn't broken at least one thing.
/bitching
6. Switched from expensive little tubes of lip balm to an industrial sized tub of paw paw ointment that I scoop out into smaller tubs as needed. Works so much better and doesn't leave a chemical taste on my lips, they are so nice and soft now, mmmmmmmm.
7. EDIT: I'm watching last weeks episode of Project Runway Australia and it is confusing me slightly, it is only episode four and they are already having another evening gown challenge, wasn't the first challenge 'a glamourous evening gown'?! Talk about a lack of creative ideas. Also while on the topic of PRA, Helen annoys the CRAP out of me!! I think she may be more annoying than both Blayne and Suede combined off the American season 5. She is just so smug!! Still she does add a lot of drama to the show which is always good ^_~

May. 20th, 2008 10:59 pmMonths of me trying every possible thing under the sun and it fixes itself now....
*is confused but insanely pleased*
Now all it has to do is stay this way.
Edit: Any one else find it odd that LJ's own post spellchecker doesn't recognise 'Livejournal' as a word?
Edit the second: Internet is still going strong, dare I say it looks like it is going to stay that way...?
DILEMMA!!!
May. 9th, 2008 07:38 pmOk, I have finally finished downloading the new SPN episode. So do I watch it now and angst over the wait for the next one, or do I wait until next week so I can watch the last two together? That would mean enforced restriction from fandom so I don't stumble across and spoilers, or worse, am tempted by any spoilers. Can I wait that long?? Aaaaaaaaggggggghhhhhh! I just know that if I watch this episode it will probably send me into fits over needing the next one!
What to do, WHAT TO DO!!!!!!

May. 1st, 2008 05:00 pmJust finished my Molecular Biology mid semester exam. Not sure about how I went, I think I at least passed so that's something I suppose. The course convener is slightly evil and more than slightly eccentric, so the questions were all really obscure, and he only dumped the fact that an extra module would be covered in the exam at 12:30 yesterday, add to that the fact that that extra module covered was only finished in lectures this morning at 11.
*sighs* Crazy lecturers who like to torture students are not fun :(

Apr. 27th, 2008 02:50 pmI thought I'd put up a table to add icons to as I colour them, mainly as a reference to me, but feel free to offer critisism, I need it ^_^
I have mostly been working with Supernatural caps and behind the scenes photos, not only cause that fandom is my new love, but because SPN caps are sometimes hard to work with cause they are so dark, so it gives me a good challenge. That said if you have any caps, or photos you want iconised/colourised (doesn't have to be spn) leave me a link and I'll see what I can do, good practice for me!
( Onwards to the colouring... )
I have also put up the before pics of the icons I have been working with as a reference point ^_^
